They don't take reservations so expect to queue

MEATliquor restaurant

There comes a time in every student's life when they don't just want a decent burger, they want the best burger in London.

There may also come a time when you can afford the luxuries of entering a burger place where you can actually sit down, like when your parents are in town to spoil you.

The merging of this desire and of this sudden boost in financial power led me to MEATliquor which is a lot more than just your average burger place.

The early bird catches the burger

The restaurant came recommended to us by my mother's friend who is a Londoner so we ventured forth, safe in the knowledge that we would be having a nice meal.

When we arrived outside the restaurant near Oxford Circus, the first thing we saw was a queue: another good sign.

But what greeted us when we entered made me slightly confused as to who exactly had made the recommendation to us.

The dark, moody interior with elaborately painted red and black walls and the loud music create a unique atmosphere and when you get to the table to find a roll of kitchen paper rather then napkins, you know it's a little different to the norm.

As much as I appreciated the vibe, it didn't seem like the kind of place my parents would enjoy, but that was about to change.

Food on trays

The menu has all the elements you would expect from a burger place, starting with the standard cheeseburger and chicken burger, including various other, more elaborate versions.

The standout name on the menu is the "Dead Hippie", two mustard-fried beef patties with cheese and sauce that is heavy but definitely worth trying.

My parents and I chose the bacon cheeseburger and each burger arrived on trays, as plates are overrated and don't really fit in with the trendy vibe.

The first impression of the burger was one of disbelief. It was everything that American movies and TV shows make you think burgers should be.

They certainly don't skimp on anything, the buns and patties are large and everything is covered in cheese and sauce.
To top it all off, it tastes even better than it looks, everything about the burger feels authentic and the quality is unquestionable. The patties are even slightly pink inside, like if you had ordered a steak medium rare.

Five minutes after the burgers had arrived my parents seemed completely at ease with where they were, and all the focus was on the food.

The cool atmosphere is different to the norm and the burgers are ridiculously good. Take your friends; take your parents… take who ever you want, just go and be there early.
